Setting Up Box Sync

Box.com is RiskManager's document and policy storage center. While it's easy to upload documents through your web browser, you can also set up Box Sync to work locally on your desktop. Once you've set up Box Sync, you can make changes to files in a "Box Sync" folder on your computer, and these changes will automatically sync to the cloud and, depending on your organization's set-up, RiskManager itself.

To set up Box Sync, you'll need to have an account on Box.com and have access to your RiskManager.net folder. If you don't have these yet, contact us at support@riskmanager.net.

To set up Box Sync:

  1. Log in at riskmanager.box.com with your email and password associated with your Box.com acccount.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the browser, and then click Get Box Sync.
  3. Click Get Box Sync for Windows, or Get Box Sync for Mac, depending on your operating system.
  4. Run the file that's downloaded, and accept the license agreement to begin installing.
  5. Once the set-up has finished, click Close and then run the Box Sync application that is now installed on your computer.
  6. Enter your Box.com email and password again.
  7. Click Start Syncing. Your Box Sync folder has now been created. By default, this folder is located directly underneath your user's folder (e.g. If the user on my computer is "Tim", then my Box Sync Folder would be at "C:\Tim\Box Sync."). You should also see the folder in your "favorites" in your file viewer.
  8. Now that your folder has been created, let's start syncing! Go back to riskmanager.box.com and right click your root RiskManager folder. Click Sync Folder to Computer, and then confirm you want to sync the folder. Your folder and all of the subfolders and files beneath it will now sync to your desktop.

Now that you've set up Box Sync, any changes you make in your desktop folder will sync to Box, and any changes you make to Box will sync to your desktop. The only exception is that deleting a folder on your desktop will not delete it on Box, but will just unsync it. This is designed to prevent you from deleting a large number of files by accident.
